Computer Skills

  • Computer Skills is a semester class offered as part of the Exploratory rotation for 6th & 7th graders. The course is designed to develop proper touch keyboarding skills using the/Typing.com program, to develop formatting techniques, and to introduce students to word processing (Microsoft Word), presentations (Microsoft PowerPoint, and spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel). Students will be graded on their Microsoft Office projects and Typing.com Checklists. The Typing.com checklists include Typing.com lessons, a technique check, and one minute timings graded based on accuracy.
  • During the semester, we will learn how to use the correct keyboarding techniques. We will learn how to use good posture and technique while improving accuracy and speed. Typing.com is a web-based keyboarding program. Typing.com also relates more to the students than previous typing programs. The students will be able to type assignments about real-time items that appeal to them. The students will also be graded on their accuracy and completion of their assignments. Typing.com lessons are scheduled every 2 days. They will have time in class to complete them. The students do have access to Typing.com from on their Chromebooks. If a student is absent and would like to work on Typing.com, they may do so to stay caught up.
  • All assignments in Microsoft and due dates are posted in Google Classroom for the students to review.
  • A calendar will be sent home each Monday morning to show what will be worked on that week. The calendar is “fluid” meaning it can change, and I will make updates as needed.
